INTRODUCTION
For the past several years, the Marketing Research Bureau has published
a study on the collection, processing and transfusion of blood in
Europe, with the aim to provide data on these markets and to understand
their dynamics.
As the European Union has expanded in the past five years, the regulatory,
technical, socio-political, and economic environments have significantly
changed, making an update of this study very timely. The present proposal
widens the scope of this study data on several Eastern European and
African countries have been included.
OBJECTIVES
The primary objective of this market research study is to provide
a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the blood collection,
processing and transfusion market in the following countries:

In addition, the the above, data and information will
be provided about several African countries, including Algeria, Benin,
Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabun, Guinea, Ivory Coast,
Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, Togo, etc.
This study will cover the following topics in each country:
- Structure and organization of blood collection
and transfusion. What organizational changes have occurred in recent
years, and what further changes are expected in the near future.
- How is the blood/plasma donation process, storage,
and distribution system organized. What are the major organizations
and regulatory agencies involved in blood collection, processing
and transfusion.
- What is the existing production of blood, red
cell concentrates and other cellular components, including platelets
and stem cells. How much autologous blood is collected. Where applicable,
cord blood collections and storage.
- Filtration and leukocyte reduction. Virus inactivation
applied to whole blood, blood components and plasma.
- Market shares of the various types of equipment
and supplies used in blood/plasma collection, transfusion and processing
(blood collection bags, apheresis machines, filters, etc.)
- Price of blood and cellular components,
including, where applicable, the price of blood and components
that are filtered, washed, irradiated, etc. Apheresis and random
filtered/non-filtered platelets, fresh frozen, virus inactivated
or quarantined plasma, etc.
The market data for the various items above will be given in units,
dollars and national currency, as well as market shares by manufacturer.
Data on some African countries will be provided (blood collections,
blood collection bags, etc.) in form of the summary tables, with brief
commentaries.
METHODOLOGY
Numerous primary and secondary sources will be used to gather the
information. Interviews will be conducted with blood center directors,
hematologists, manufacturers of blood collection supplies and equipment,
government and regulatory agencies, and industry experts.
REPORT, COST AND DELIVERY
The final report will have about 120 pages. Each client will receive
two copies of the report, which will include an executive summary,
all the relevant annexes, graphs and tables. A pdf file will also
be sent electronically to the clients at no extra charge.
